A LITTLE CLARITY BEFORE A BIG EXPENSE.

Storm-repair roofing offers: what to check

An unsolicited offer deserves careful verification. A storm-related sales pitch alone does not establish whether a contractor is legitimate.

Identify the business

Record the company name, address and contact details. Check applicable credentials with the relevant state or local authority rather than relying solely on a badge or sales document. Ask who will perform and supervise the work.

Read the actual agreement

Separate an inspection authorization from a repair contract. Ask what each signature authorizes, what work is included and how the price can change. Keep a copy of the complete proposal and any photographs supplied with it.

Keep payment and scope clear

Request a written work description, schedule and payment terms. If you are pressed to decide before you can read or compare the proposal, pause and seek another opinion. The FTC advises against paying the entire project price before the work is done.

Do not treat a price score as a contractor check

RipOffRadar does not verify licenses, insurance, storm damage or claim eligibility. Its breakdown cannot certify a business or replace an inspection. Confirm any insurer’s requirements directly with the insurer before relying on a contractor’s description of them.
